DIY Plant Stands

There has been a lovely spout of unseasonably warm weather here in Georgia for the past week and a half. The temperature has been perfectly situated between the sixties and seventies. The best part about it being warm in February? Still no bugs! Anyway, all of this warm weather has inspired me to do some planting, gardening and playing outdoors. I have started an herb garden which will include mint, basil, oregano, rosemary, and cilantro. I only planted them a few days ago and several of them have already sprouted. Yay!

Once I move them outdoors I have been trying to decide how I would like to display my little garden. So tonight I was perusing DIY plantstands and found these gems.

How cute is this idea? Add a vintage tea set to a shabby plant stand and wah-la!

Old crates are a dime a dozen at antique stores. Why not hang them on the wall and make a vertical garden out of them?

I have seen buckets like these at craft stores and even dollar stores. They come in all sorts of colors and patterns. This is a great idea for a kitchen window or a patio.

It's hard to say, but this may be my favorite find. An old ladder has been re-purposed into the perfect plant stand.

Love this idea to label your pots. A little chalkboard paint is all you need for this easy diy project.

When space is hard to come by, a vertical garden is the solution. This stand has been created with a few pieces of wood, plant rings, and paint.
Have an unused shoe organizer lying around? Re-purpose it into a great holder for a vertical herb garden. Way to recycle!

So simple, but so cute! Happy gardening!

Outdoor Living

A deck isn't just a deck anymore, nor is a patio just a patio. These days it is trendy to carve an entire outdoor living space out of extra acreage, be that a patio, deck, or yard. This not only adds square footage to a home, but it also increases the selling value of the home. Some people are fortunate enough to have an outdoor kitchen, fire place, living area, and pool in their space. However, those who are like me are lucky to fit a table with four chairs and a weber grill. A girl can dream though and dreaming I have done while finding all of these beautiful pictures.

Shabby, but oh so chic!

I would take this office in a heartbeat! I love it's simplicity. The old boards that have been turned into a workable desk, the worn shutters letting in gorgeous daylight, and the aged shelving system all create such a comfy, cozy atmosphere.
If my workspace were this chic, let's just say I'd be a workaholic.

Exposed brick, crystal chandelier, plush linens? Yes, please.

The mirror propped against the wall gives such a laid back feeling to this entryway. Various candlesticks are the perfect accessory for this non-fussy tablescape. This shows that sometimes the simplest things are the prettiest.

Gray is the new neutral.

Having lived in a sea beige and off white for far too long I think designers, homeowners, and paint stores the world over can agree that a new neutral is a welcomed commodity. Gray is quickly rising in popularity as it serves as such a great background to so many accent colors. To some gray may sound drab or cold, however when used in the right way it can be very warm and inviting.

Gray is a versatile neutral and can be as classic or as contemporary as you would like it to be. When a warm base such as red is used it can be suitable for the most traditional space creating a cozy, and inviting color. However, when a cool shade such as blue makes up the base it can be a great color for a stark, contemporary space. Here are some examples of gray used in a variety of settings.

This dining room is so light and airy. cool shades of turquoise pop against a palette of steel gray. Rich textures and patterns work together to create an interesting yet luxurious dining room.

If this room is any indication of what the rest of Molly Sim's house looks like I think it's safe to say that this is one chic pad. The over sized chandelier is simply eye-catching. It adds a romanticism to the room with its' dramatic lighting. shades of gunmetal grays and rich plums pair together to create the perfect mix of femininity and masculinity.

Gray and yellow was introduced about a year ago as the new hot color combo. cool gray provides the perfect backdrop for warm, sunny yellow. They work together to create such an unexpected combination. this sofa is practically begging you to come take a nap with all of those plush, comfy toss pillows.

I absolutely love this gray upholstered headboard which really makes a great background for the patterned pillows. The red accents stand out beautifully against the neutral headboard. Also, the blue ikat is gorgeous and pairs together with red to make the perfect complimentary color palette. Love the contrast of a contemporary ikat fabric on such a classic french chair.

What a great bathroom this is. I just love the antique elements paired with such a contemporary and airy color palette. The clawfoot tub, exposed vanity and classic chandelier work so well together in this chic bathroom.

What can I say about this except that I love everything about it? The lamps, the wallpaper, the color palette, and the buffet are all simply divine.
